2013! What a year!!!

Exciting stuff, right?

The truth is, 2013 has not been a favorite of mine.   At all.    It hasn't.   So I'm feeling all kinds of excitement about the start of 2014 and just "freshness" in general.

I actually am NOT a New Years resolution type person.   I really try and live life the way I want it or desire it to be lived the majority of the time.    I've always been a huge believer that life is short and no matter how old we are...the time is NOW!!!   It is.   Forget what people think.  Be goofy. Be open.  Laugh at yourself.   Don't save it for later.  Don't worry what anyone thinks.   Again, the time is now.   Just ask Oprah....(didn't she say something along those lines at one point?  Pretty sure she did! :)

With that being said,   I do LOVE setting some NY goals.    Like, love..actually.   Tomorrow I'll be posting all of my goals.    The good and the ugly.   At any rate, don't forget to come back.

I  LOVE the idea that the New Year is a brand, new exciting start.   As I've said before, we are in charge of our own happiness, peeps.   All the time.  We are.   If we sit around waiting for the perfect thing to happen or the perfect person to come into our lives and MAKE it all happen, it won't.   Promise you that.     However, think about it, that's a beautiful thing.     That means the control (for the most part) is on US!!!   WE are in control of our happiness.    The thing is, when life throws us a curveball, we aren't doomed.  At all.  Use it as an opportunity to grow, get stronger, set new goals, just be in charge of your life, your health, your happiness, your fitness.  The End.    So make 2014 a great one.

In February 2013....I started this bloggy!!!    Let's look at the highlights, mmmkay?

Some of you might remember my old bloggy from back in the day called "The Perfect Balance."   I shut that baby down when life got too chaotic with two #monkeygirls.   Well last Feb., I got the itch again and here we are.    Is it bad that I secretly love that my very first post was titled Here We Go, Yo!!! ???   (Don't answer that.)

In April,  this fool and I decided to drive 9 hours to the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia and run a marathon.  We did.

Oh and I met these two running legends along the way.   We pretty much about died.

May was filled way more activity than is normal or recommended.   It started with the  Cap City Half Marathon. Side note, this is my fave half ever.   I won't skip it.  Ever. TLA. The End.

A fun trip to Disney with a bunch 'o fools.   Basically this consisted of a week of my family of four, our nabe's and their family of four, and a sound level that broke legal sound decibels all over the globe.  Legit, we were a traveling circus.  But dang, we had fun.  We did.

Oh and then I ran Cleveland Marathon in 190% humidity and almost died.   Remember that???  For once, I wasn't even being dramatic.

Cleveland Marathon, you know I hate you, but I may be coming back for you.   Because I hate you that much.  I need redemption.

Avy Bug  turned 3.  And now she's basically counting down the days to 4.  Wah!!!  Simmer down, Avy Bug.

June brought some super cool stuff with Advocare and our chance to have dinner with the one and only director of Research and Development of Advo, Dr. Mark Miller.

And again, I got to preach to the entire free world about my passion for the Performance Elite line as well as my drummed up/ bootlegged Runner's Cocktail.

Summer was filled with swim team..

An amazing Advo Presidents Party as well as Success School at Dallas Cowboys stadium....

and a million other shenans....

September brought a fun family vacay.

Speaking of that vacay....OMG, remember my travel debacle?!

September also included a crapload of soccer...  It Did.

In October,  the big girl turned 7...

I know.  This should be outlawed pretty much immediately.

I also ran an awesome all girls half marathon with some of my best girls...

And then had an awesome PR at the Columbus Marathon.

November included more shenans, including hosting the entire fam for Thanksgiving.

December was filled with the besties 40th to Vegas

as well as a zillion and one Christmas shenanigans.

So again,   tune in tomorrow for all of my goals.   The good, the bad, and the ugly.   Pretty sure you may wanna join me on some of them.

Happy New Year, friends!!!!  I'm thankful for all of you!

Sunday Sentiments and Two Recipes

For the love of small children, is it over yet???

What a fun, gluttonous, magical, hilarious, shenan-filled holiday.

I won't go through every detail because really...what's more of a snoozefest than someone else's Christmas week recap?   Well, someone else's Disney week recap... but we've already talked about that.

Just a few random's....

1.  So this is funny....I get up at the crack of dawn on Christmas Eve to bust out some serious miles before Body Pump and basically the general gluttony that was about to go down later in the day.  I'm somehow minding my own beezwax, just rocking out to Timber, ya know?   I  look over  and realize that about 1/3 of my running mama's are lined up next to me on the 'mills.  No discussion or planning  took place prior to this.  Nothing.    And a couple more showed up as the run went on.  But seriously, do we all have the same birth mom or what?????   Cuz I'm kinda thinking we do.

2.   The 3 1/2 year old and I both love faux fur.  We do.  It's where it's at.  Faux fur = the glamorous life.    It does.  There's more where that came from.  #facty #trust  #flossyflossy

3.  The wildebeest/ snuffleupagus/ #Runnerdog/ designer mutt that somehow lives in this house basically wormed his way into every picture.  Morning, noon, and night.    He did.  #doubledoodle

3.  Yet another #40thselly went down for the BFF.   Feel free to admire the exquisite quality of my Iphone pics at any time...

4.  Oh and Advocare got named the best sports performance supplement of 2013 by Competitors Magazine.   So that's nothing but #awesomesauce and kinda made my heart skip a beat or two.  #toldya

5.  These little foo's 'o mine made their annual Christmas Eve birthday cake for Jesus.  Something I always love.   An icing covered pajama arm is always a pre-req.

So let's talk about this upcoming 24 Day Challenge!

As you guys know, I'm starting on January 13th.  Primarily because I want to eat cake on my birthday (#hollah).  Plus there are couple other big social obligations coming my way that will be hard for me to stay 100% 24 DC compliant.

However, I'm already scouting new recipes.   So while I'm not starting the challenge quite yet, I'll be trying new recipes with the rest of y'all.  Oh and of course, supporting you guys on the FB board!

On deck for me this week....

First of all...do you guys follow Paleomg.com?    If not, you need to, stat.  While I know Advo and our awesome supplements are not Paleo....  A lot of her recipes fall right into what we are doing here.    Plus, they are easy peasy, which is huge for all of us.

Two things that are on my menu for the week.

Simple Bacon and Spinach Stuffed Chicken

  • 4 chicken breasts, butterflied and pounded flat
  • 6-8 ounces of button mushrooms, roughly chopped
  • 5 strips of bacon
  • 4-5 cups fresh spinach
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Butterfly your chicken. I’m not totally sure how to butterfly a chicken breast but I cut mine in half, then placed plastic wrap on top of the chicken and pounded it until it was flat. Do that, it works.
  3. Then place a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the five strips of bacon and cook on both sides until crispy, then place bacon on a paper towel to soak up the excess fat. When cooled, dice up the bacon.
  5. Pour out the excess fat from the bacon, leaving behind about 3 tablespoons in the pan.
  6. While the pan is still over medium-high, toss in the garlic cloves then add diced mushrooms.
  7. Sprinkle in a bit of salt and pepper on the mushrooms.
  8. Once mushrooms have begun to soften, add the spinach and a bit more salt and pepper.
  9. Cover and let steam until spinach has begun to wilt. When the spinach has wilted, remove the pan from heat and add in diced bacon. Mix with mushrooms and spinach until well combined.
  10. Place mixture into the middle of your butterflied chicken, fold chicken over to make a little “pocket” and use a two toothpicks to keep it closed while cooking.
  11. Place stuffed chicken breasts on a parchment lined baking sheet and put in oven to bake for 18-20 minutes or until there is no longer pink in the chicken. The time will range depending on how thin you pound the chicken. It may take a bit longer.
  12. Love moist chicken. Don’t overcook it, don’t you do it!
  13. Don’t eat the toothpick. Duh.

Oh and can't wait to attack this!

Simple Herb Crusted Salmon Salad

For the salmon
  • 2 salmon fillets (6oz each)
  • 1 heaping tablespoon coconut flour
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (or dried, if you have on hand)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • salt and pepper, to taste
For the salad
  • 2 cups arugula
  • ¼ red onion, sliced thin
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Place salmon fillets on a parchment or foil lined baking sheet.
  3. Top your salmon off with olive oil and dijon mustard and rub into your salmon.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together your coconut flour, parsley, and salt and pepper.
  5. Use a spoon to sprinkle on your toppings on your salmon and then your hand to pat into your salmon.
  6. Place in oven for 10-15 minutes or until salmon is cooked to your preference. I cooked mine more on the medium rare side at 12 minutes.
  7. While the salmon is cooking, mix together your salad ingredients.
  8. When salmon is done, place salmon on top of salad and consume.

Stay tuned for more recipes as the week goes on.   If you're new to the FB board, remember that all of the resources are tucked away right under the "files" tab.  Print your grocery list, instructions, and all the other goodies there.

Hope you guys had a fabulous Christmas!!!

From Mine to Yours....

Hope your holiday is happy, safe, and warm!

Lots of action going on in these parts lately!

A few highlights!

1.   Super fun running mama's Christmas party/ white elephant gift exchange.   So the idea was to bring a running related item that you no longer want.... Oh em gee.   Of course this all resulted in a fashion show of trying on each other's old running clothes.   Let's just say at one point, I ended up in a Lulu shirt that the 7 year old could have fit into.   Pure comedy.

2.   Christmas #1 went down in the books!  These monkeys have basically already hit the jackpot and it's only Christmas Eve.

Oh and check out what the sister in law had the audacity to give me.     Ummm..... white chocolate/raspberry/brown sugar infused almond butter.    This should be illegal.  The End.     This is basically the equivalent of me owning my own jar of Nutella, and then some.  I can't be trusted.

3.   Super fun Title Boxing Club employee Christmas par-tay.

Of course a little gun show went down when some members showed up.    #nbd

And it's totally normal to force said innocent members into partaking in our Dirty Dancing "time of my life" shenanigans.

4.  Obsessing over these monkeys in pics of old Christmas pj's.   Does anyone else do this tradition?  It's one of my faves.   The elf brings new Christmas pj's and little boxes of chocolate every Christmas Eve morning.

We then take a morning shot at the top of the stairs on Christmas morning before they are allowed to even peek downstairs.   I LOVE looking back at these old pics.

Sniff.  Why do they look so little???

And here is the elf with this years goodies.

Oh my word, speaking of the elf...gettaloadathis....
#Runnerdog somehow got ahold of the elf and was running at dangerously high speeds through the house with the dang Elf hanging out of his mouth.   The kids were in hysterics.  Like TRAUMATIZED.   I mean, call 911 type of traumatized.
If you have kids, you know that everyone knows that the elf loses his magic if anyone touches him.   So basically you're legit screwed and Christmas is ruined.   After the elf was retrieved, things were slowly smoothed over.  Not without tears, of course.       However, the next morning, I wake up to a letter to the elf from 7 year old basically professing how sorry she is that this all happened and please don't be sad.     And then I died a little.   Because the bottom line is,  this elf phase is short.  Someone is inevitably gonna blow it.  They just are.   So yeah, I try my hardest to soak it all in.  And let's face it, it's just sweet.  And innocent.  It is.

And lastly....

There is still time to get in on our 24 Day Challenge groups!

I have groups starting throughout the month of January.   I personally start on January 13th.     Join me!  You can read about why the challenge works and why it's awesomesauce here.   You can read my favorite prep tips here and here.   Anyone can do this.  Promise you that.

The thing is, this is a lifestyle.  It's not a diet.   If you've been reading the bloggy for awhile, you know I make healthy choices 80-85% of the time.  I also live.  And I have a ton of fun living.   The key is finding your sweet spot and knowing when/how much you can live.     Let me help you!

So make the choice for yourself.  If you aren't where you want to be physically and mentally, do you really want to spend another year wishing that you felt differently?   Absofreakinglutely not.  Life is short friends.  It is.   So make 2014 the year that you knock your own socks off.

So tomorrow is Christmas!!      I still haven't decided what I'm going to do about WIAW!    If it's not posted tomorrow night, you can count on me doing it for shiz on Thursday.

Merry Christmas friends!  I appreciate every single one of you.
