A Confession. And Some Thursday Thoughts For Good Measure...

Button straight up lifted from my homegirl, Jen.    No big.

  • First things first.   If you are wondering what happened to What I Ate Wednesday yesterday, I'm gonna come clean.    Basically, I had a giant bowl of Cocoa Puffs and Pinot Grigio for dinner.  I know.   And then I got involved in a bunch of #shenans and then just kind of avoided the WIAW situation altogether.   #juskeepingitreal.   My theory on food and eating in general has always been to aim for 85% clean eating and the other 15% is meant for nights like this.

  • I need an assistant.  Like for real.  Can someone come run my life for a second?  Do me a solid and get everything squared away and I'll resume responsibility.

  • There are blessings everywhere.  Just have to look.  Tonight, as I watched 3 year old intently pretend like she was playing soccer, while 6 year old was having soccer practice, my heart melted a little.   So simple but she was so little, sweet, innocent, pretty, and in her own little world.  And I really tried to ingrain the whole thing into my mind.

  • The alarm clock is set for 4:35 a.m. in order for me to get up and run 18 miles before work with some other crazy running people. Yes, I know this sounds certifiably insane to pretty much the entire worlds population.  However, to a small percentage of us, this is totally normal and acceptable behavior.

  • So by now, you all know that my friends are fairly nutty, kinda like me, and really... just like I like 'em.        Best text of the day....    "I think I did something to my back.  It screams at me when I try to hug my knees."     This is followed by...  "But I can still do cartwheels!?!  What the hell???"                                                                                                                                          I honestly have reason to believe that she sent the first text and then assessed the injury by doing a cartwheel.     Local friends, you can probably guess who the culprit is.  This is legit what I am dealing with here, folks.

That's all I've got for now, friends.   If you are joining us in our big 24DC (Tuesday is the day!) and haven't been added to my FB group yet, message me at advocarerunner1@gmail.com and I'll get you hooked up, stat.

See ya tomorrow!

So What Wednesday!?

As always, linking up with my girl, Shannon for some SWW!

And as always, here we go, yo!

  • So What if my thoughts on the Miley Cyrus performance are kind of jacked up?  First of all, yes the performance was disgusting.  That's a given.  But really, she got what she wanted.  Everyone in the western world is talking about this.    And if I'm a betting girl, I would would bet that her traffic and downloads on her music have increased exponentially over the past 48 hours.   She's not dumb, folks.    Will she likely be undergoing some kind of intensive psychiatric and/ or substance abuse treatment within the year?  Yes.  But for now, I would say she's pleased as pie about the whole thing.

  • And speaking of.....So What if I was totally focused on the fact that Miley should have worn some kind of heel, a wedge...something... during said train wreck performance?     I honestly, could barely focus on the 100 other things wrong with the performance as a result of the shoe problem.   Certainly I can't be the only one.

  • So What if the term "getting shredded" is the new term for "working out" as far as I'm concerned?  Try it.

  • So What if I'm somehow doing the cleanse during prime firepit / s'more making/ red wine season?    Yes, this is a season.   And it's a fabulous one.

  • So What if #Runnerdog didn't get to run with me yesterday and he was a total a-hole all day?   Seriously,  it's almost like I gave birth to this dog.

  • So What if (once again) I blew off all responsibility to hang out with some fantabulous friends at the pool yesterday afternoon?   Summer is ending and the time is now.  I figure I can fold laundry when I'm dead.  I'll sleep then too.

  • So What if my mom is likely going to KILL me for posting this but she started Couch to 5K AND signed up for her first 5K and I legit can't contain my happiness?!?!    Seriously, I've been dying for this day pretty much my entire adult life.    No turning back, mamacita.   I told you to start telling people so that you are held accountable and look, I did some of the work for you.  #donthateme,Iloveyou

See you back here tonight for What I Ate Wednesday.    Also, stay tuned for a new "Things you need" post.  It's been a minute so I've got all kinds of new goodies up my sleeve.

S'all for now.  Later Lovers.

Meal Prep Monday!!!

Here we go, yo.   A brand new feature on prepping for the week ahead!   This will likely be a bi-weekly feature, along with my girl Niki, and we would LOVE some others to join in the fun!

Prepping for the week really isn't hard.  I promise.   I would bet it takes me a total of 3-4 hours, which includes making a menu, making a list for the grocery store, going to the actual store, and then prepping the food.   Of course this isn't done in a single chunk of time so it's not like you need an entire 4 hour block of time.  You feel me?

If you have been reading the blog for awhile, you may remember my how to prep for the 24 Day Challenge post.   Really, my weekly prep isn't a whole lot different.  Different yes, because it's on a lesser scale and I incorporate a few foods that are not challenge friendly, per say.   But the actual preparation part is very similar.

I start out with a list and recipes.   I wish I could say that I had a fancy system, but I don't.   Here are how things look up in here by Sunday.  I don't even like to use  Iphone notes for this.  I like old school pen and paper.  I just do.    I keep recipes saved on my computer and then write it all out as I'm planning....And then I ride my dinosaur over to the grocery store and proceed from there....

So this weekends prepping consisted of:

  • Boiling 18 eggs.  #1 rule of clean eating.  Always have accessible boiled eggs.  Trust me.
  • Washing and cutting veggies for snacking, recipes, and salads
  • Washing and drying fruit
  • Chopping cilantro, limes, lemons, and scallions
  • Making protein bars (recipe to follow)
  • Cooking 2 lbs of chicken.  Rule #2  Always have cooked chicken in the fridge.  You will need it for quick salads, or an actual meal if things fall apart.
  • Cooking 2 lbs. of ground turkey for recipes that are on deck for the week.

This whole process combined literally took about 75 minutes.   #NBD.   The payoff is huge.   Again, trust me.

As ya'll know, I LOVE these Tupperware veggie/ fruit containers as seen in my fridge.   And no, I'm not a Tupperware sales person.   But my friend Jennifer, is if you're in the market for one.   But yeah, these containers are awesome and I know I've talked about them before so I won't bore you with the deets.

First things first.  These protein bars are so freaking easy and are fab to have as a regular staple in your freezer.   Here's what you need...

2 cups TJ's quick cook steel cut oats
5 scoops of Advocare Chocolate Muscle Gain
1/2 cup natural peanut butter
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1/2 cup unsweetened chocolate almond milk
3 packets of Stevia

So here's the deal.  You want to cook the quick cook oats before you start the process.  Cook with about 1/2 cup of water for about 2 minutes.   The mike is fine but so is the stove on high for 2 min.  You don't want to use too much water or the whole thing will be a flop, as they will be too runny.

After your oats are somewhat cooked, mix the remaining ingredients together.     Press them into a baking dish, covered in wax paper.   Freeze for an hour.  Remove from freezer and slice into bars.   I typically wrap them in more wax paper and portion them into ziploc bags.  These freeze awesome and quite honestly, I think they are best right out of the freezer.     And they're legit so easy and so good for on the go.  And WAY cheaper and more clean than any bar on the market.  So there's that.

Tonight was Avocado Lime Tilapia Tacos.  #TDF

You need:

And I'm vague with the spices because I eyeball it and basically do it by taste.  I'll estimate, so don't be alarmed.

1 lb. of Tilapia
Juice of 1 fresh lime
2 Avocado
Olive Oil  (3 tbsp?)
Black Pepper  ( 1 tsp)
Sea Salt  (2 tsp)
Onion Powder (1 1/2 tsp)
Garlic Powder ( 1 1/2 tsp)
Red onion ( 1/2 onion?)
Corn (I use one corn on the cob and scrape it off.  Somehow I think it tastes better, but I would say 1/2 cup of corn)
2 packets of stevia
Cilantro
Salsa

In a skillet, combine the tilapia, olive oil, black pepper, 1 tsp of salt, half of onion powder, half of garlic powder, and one packet of stevia.

While that is cooking, combine diced avocado, lime, more black pepper, more salt, more onion powder, more garlic powder, red onion, corn, and 1 packet of stevia in a separate bowl.     Set aside in the fridge while while tilapia is cooking. FYI, you want the tilapia flaky.  Super flaky.

As far as the wraps go, you can use Ezekial or any other clean wrap.  I like a small wrap for fish tacos and love these.

Stats are decent, for sure.  Found in the ethnic foods section of any grocery store these days.

On deck for the week:

Almond Crusted Chicken (recipe to come)
Turkey Stuffed Bell Peppers (TDF!  Recipe to come)

Oh and I still owe you guys my Greek Chili recipe.

If I can get my act together, there may be some Tuesday Troubles tomorrow.  Worst case scenario, I'll see you back here Wednesday morning for SWW.

Laters Babes.

Sunday Sentiments and Weekend Wrap Up

First of all, we need to talk about a couple of important things around here.

1.  Am I the only one who was completely blindsided that my boyfriend, Wentworth Miller, came out of the closet?   I have loved him since Prison Break and honestly, I'm speechless.  And also a little embarrassed that I suspected nothing.   Oh Wentworth, I'm sad.  I guess I'm happy that you are happy but selfishly, I'm sad, sad, sad.

2.  I am also super bummed about the recent news of Omar's drug addiction.   What on earth?   Even though these two got married WAY prematurely, I have really rooted for them from the beginning.  I think they are kinda adorable together and I think they really do love each other.  Ya know, based on all of the private conversations I have had with Khloe and everything.   But yeah,  Khloe and Lamar, it's not looking good. However, I still I really hope you can somehow find a way to work this out.

3.   Is anyone else borderline obsessed with how happy our girl, Jennifer Aniston appears to be?    I can't get enough of her and Justin together and really feel like this is the real deal.   I really hope Brad is secretly jelly with a capital J.  He should be.

Onto the weekend shenans...

As always, if you follow me on the #insta (Advorunner!), you would already know this important stuff.

I stumbled upon my first sighting of Mums on Friday.  This made me ecstatic.  I LOVE me some Mums. I just do.

Friday night, we headed out to dinner for a few carbs in prep for my 16 miler.   Now, as I've mentioned, I'm not big into over the top carb loading.  It never works for me.  I shared my tried and true pre-marathon/ pre long run meal somewhere before on the blog, and I'm having trouble finding it.   Stay tuned for that.

So I ended up with a pasta dish that was way too rich, way too salty, and I was famished by the time it arrived.  Which means I ate WAY too much along with way too much bread.   Not good.  At all.

It all started out fabulously.   Come to mama.

And then I wasn't feeling great.  But I somehow kept eating.   Again, not good.

And then I wanted to die.    So basically I didn't sleep well and just felt way too full to have to get up at 5:30 to run 16 miles.   But I did.  Because #thashowiroll.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...my kids and a neighbor friend were having the time of their life with the best girl babysitter on earth.  She basically comes with a bag of magic and turns my sweet, innocent children into Bratz dolls in about 30 minutes flat.  They think it's the best thing ever so it's all good.      No I will not share her digits.  She's mine, all mine.

#notnormal, I know.

So Saturday the 16 miler happened.   Didn't feel great but it's in the books.

Post run.  #myposse

And I should tell you guys that I'm obsessed with this wrap, especially post long run.

Nothing more than an Ezekial wrap, smoked turkey, hummus, avocado, and fresh spinach.  #getinmabelly.  Seriously an amazing, easy combo.

The rest of the day was filled with soccer, the pool, and shenans.  Fall soccer 2013, in full swing.

A little off topic (but really, what isn't up in here?), but I have gotten several emails about kids and Spark.   Here is what works for us.   Soon to be 7 year old always get a giant shaker of Rehydrate with ice for soccer or whatever sport she is doing at the moment.     She also occasionally gets about 1/3 of a  serving of Spark either mixed in her Rehydrate or sometimes separate.  We have had zero issues.     I really can't make a recommendation or statement re: Spark and kids.    I would say to start out small.  Maybe even 1/8 of a serving and see how it goes.

Oh and speaking of Spark.... did I tell you guys that this one legit thinks that her mom invented Spark?   Oh and did I tell you guys that I still haven't corrected her?   #moty  #poser

So Saturday night, we ended up at a local festival with friends, which was all kinds of fun.

I had my first pumpkin beer of the season.    Hello, lover.

The monkeys had fun.

Adorbs, right?

A bunch 'o tired,  silly fools.

And then of course today entailed a quick run with #runnerdog, more pool, driveway shenans, and oh, some of these.  2 for $22, yo's.   But where is Salty Caramel???  This concerns me.

Tune in tomorrow for an exciting, new weekly feature!.....  Meal Prep Mondays!

I'm linking with my blogging home girl, Niki and we'll be talking about how we prep for the first part of the week, what's on the menu, and how to prep to stay on track.  It's not rocket science but it does take time.  You too can do it.  Promise.

See you back here in the A!

Friday Letters

Happy Friday, friends!!

Dear those of you joining my giant 24 Day Challenge Group,   We have two weekends left and then it's on like Donkey Kong, so if you want some fat Mexican (like me), the time is now.

Dear 16 miler,  I see you and it's on.   And furthermore, how are we already over halfway through fall marathon training?    All kinds of emotions wrapped up in this, per ususal.

Dear Epsom Salts,  We've been apart for a week and it's my own fault.  Twice now I have gone to Target  specifically to buy you and have walked out with no less than $100 of "things" that are not you.     I miss you bad and so do my muscles.

Dear 6 Year old,  You literally made me almost fall over laughing when you and your friend told me that you guys no longer like Justin Beiber because  "he burps in peoples faces and pee's in front of kids."   Say What????     And for those of you who follow the Beib... is this accurate information?   I'm perplexed because they were somehow totally confident in this report.

Dear B&BW,  I'll be paying you a vizzy this weekend, don't worry.  I see your emails and I miss you as much as you miss me.   I legit need a candle fix and for reals don't think I've been in your store since I hoarded all of those Summer Boardwalk wallflowers.

Dear Foam Roller,  You really are amazing.   Once again, you brought my sore hip flexors back to life.   Oh and watching the 3 year old continuously attempting to foam roll her little body is a hilarious added benny.

Dear Fresh Flowers from TJ's,    You make me so happy.  You just do.  #thelittlethings

See you back here Sunday for Sunday Sentiments/ Weekend Wrap Up.  Oh and our new Meal Prep Monday link up will be up on Monday.  Stay tuned!

And if you want to keep tabs on all of  my weekend shenans, I'll be all over the Insta, per usual.  (Advorunner).   Oh and if you are still not on the Insta, if you could do me a solid and create an account stat, that would be great too.

Have a fab weekend and see ya Sunday.

What I Ate Wednesday!

Once again, it's time for my weekly and riveting WIAW post.    As previously stated, I love creeping on other people's eats and to do lists.   So if you are new to the blog (I'm seeing lots of newbies,  thanks for reading!), and anything like me, you should love WIAW.

As always, here we go...yo!

Today started with a Grape Spark and 3 Catalyst well before the sun came up.

I took #Runnerdog out for 4 miles and came home and had this.

2 eggs, 1/2 c egg whites, blob of almond butter, and cinnamon.  3 Omegaplex on the side.  LOVE this breaky.

Then, I remembered that my almond butter jar had the perfect amount for another dip, so I went back in and finished it off.

Right?  Who can resist that?

Around 9, I had a second Spark and 2 Thermoplus.  Yes, this is early for a second Spark, but keep in mind I had been up for 4 hours by this point.

Around 11, I had a Pure Protein bar at a meeting.  Love these.

I originally had lunch plans but ended up having to go see a patient around that time and hadn't packed anything.  Nature of my gig.   #NBD.   I had a late lunch when I got home.

It's hard to see what is under this mound but this salad rocked my sox.   Spinach, an avocado, tons of cherry tomatoes, 2 salmon burgers (from TJ's that I blogged about last night!), feta cheese, and balsamic vinegar.  #tdf.

And then I discovered that I also have an almost empty PB jar, just begging for a spoon.   Don't worry, I have back ups.   But anyway, dessert was me cleaning this baby dry.    In retrospect,  I should have saved it for tomorrow so I could have made PB jar oatmeal but I couldn't help myself.

I went for a quick weight lifting session and had Spark #3 and a serving of Muscle Strength prior to leaving.   If you are strength training and not using Muscle Strength, you need it asap.  It contains HMB, which is shown to increase muscle stamina and muscle mass and is basically derived from a pretty awesome amino acid (L-leucine, if you're curious).   For me, it allows me to lift harder and longer.   I notice even more effectiveness, when I take it on an empty stomach, which was not today.   But truly, I pretty much love this product.  The End.

When I walked in the door,  I had this.   A fat apple and a 100 cal pack of Emerald Cinnamon Roast Almonds.  Not sure why, but I was craving this combo.

Dinner was EASY crockpot turkey chili.    Mainly because nothing says chili like 80 degree temps but also because I was really wanting Mexican and thought this might fix that.   I topped it with cheddar cheese and sliced jalepenos, which I'm obsessed with.

This is literally just:

1 lb ground turkey
1 packet of TJ's organic chili seasoning
3 cans of TJ's organic red beans
1 can of TJ's seasoned tomatoes
1/2 red onion
a little salt
a little pepper
a couple packets of stevia

If your turkey is thawed, you can legit throw this in the crock pot on high  two hours before you are planning to eat it and it'll be good as gold.   If you have your act together and throw it all in said crock pot in the morning and cook on low all day, it'll be even better.   Either way, this never fails me.

So there you have it folks.

See ya'lls back here tomorrow or (worst case scenario) on Friday for Friday Letters!

So What Wednesday!?

As always, here we go, yo!

  • So What if my neighbor was grilling steak on charcoal (I die!!) last night and I contemplated asking for a small bite?  Without an invitation or even a head nod, or even eye contact, actually.    But dang, that charcoal grill smells good and I legit almost couldn't help myself.

  • So What if I'm pretty sure that my mailman is reading my US Weeklys?  I find it fishy that the rest of America gets them delivered on Friday, if not Thursday,  and I somehow always get a Saturday delivery.   It's just fishy.  That's all.

  • So What if my almost 3-year-long,  ongoing group text with my old co-workers makes me laugh out loud at least once a day?  We basically need to write a book, immeed.  Oh and if our text chain ever stops, I'm likely going to need inpatient psychiatric treatment.    It's all I know.

  • So What if 6 year olds soccer schedule is kind of majorly screwing up my marathon training schedule?  I mean, her sports trump mine any day, they just do and they should.   But why must her 45 min game be scheduled in the middle of important 3 hour training runs that only happen once a week?   Anyone?   I fear this is a small glimpse into my future.

  • So What if I DVR'd Howard Stern on Katie on Monday?   He is hilarious and inappropriate and if you hate him, I'm sorry.  But I love him.   And I feel like Beth and AGT have done wonders for him.   Give him another chance.  Won't you?

  • So What if I'm majorly ready for fall and it's primarily related to fall candles?   I want my Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin.  Oh and Salty Caramel.  Real bad.

  • So What if I hate going to the zoo?   There.  I said it.   Everyone else is all "oh, it's a beautiful day...a perfect day for the zoo!"   Yeah, I'll go, and I won't complain, and  I'll make the best of it but dang, I really do hate the zoo.   Especially on beautiful days.  It's just not fun.  Primarily because everyone else in the 614 has the same idea.    So yeah, I hate the zoo.   Did I mention that I live 5 minutes from the top rated zoo in the nation?    But still, if it's a beautiful day, I can think of 100 things that are more fun than the zoo.   #donthateme, iloveyou.    But yeah, I hate the zoo.

See you back here tonight for What I Ate Wednesday!

Trader Joe's Necessities and Some Cleanse Friendly Quickies....

It's not earth shattering news that I LOVE me some Trader Joe's.   I'm super lucky to have two right here in the 614, one being about 5 miles away.   So for those of you who don't have a local TJ's, my heart goes out to you.    It really does.   This should not even be legal.

I thought it was high time that I share some of my favorite, EASY Trader Joe's staples, snacks, and even a couple of cleanse friendly items.

Giddy up.

Seriously, love these.  The stats are awesome, they are full of omegas,  and I love that they are perfectly proportioned into individual servings.   Anyone who has ever witnessed me with a can of nuts or trail mix, knows that it never leads to anything good.    So LOVE these and love these for on the go or a quick pre-workout snack.   One of these will always be found at the bottom of every bag for emergency purposes.

Steamed Lentils.  These are lightly seasoned and awesome cold or hot.  I put them on salads and also use them in my Greek Chili (recipe up soon).   The truth is, I have also been known to eat them with a fork straight from the container.    These are found in the refrigerated area near the hummus, dips, etc.  You may as well buy two or three packs.    My kids even dig these.  Warning, this is an item that they are sometimes out of for a couple weeks at a time.  So if you want them and find them in stock, buy them now.

Seriously LOVE these.   These are also totally cleanse friendly in my opinion.  No sugar, good protein, not bad on sodium and fat.   I eat these topped with guacamole and salsa.   Buy these immediately.   You will not be sorry.

As far as I'm concerned, these are cleanse friendly as well.   Again, good protein and 1 g of sugar.  Yes, technically processed but a fabulous quick fix if you are crunched on time and want something hot.  Oh and you're on this crazy cleanse.

TJ's Edamame.  It's a no brainer.  It's already cooked, super inexpensive, and is a perfect side or snack in two minutes.  Top with sea salt and have at it.  We always have multiple bags of these.

Corn pasta and marinara sauce.   I wouldn't eat this on the cleanse due to the processing of the pasta as well as the natural sugars in the sauce.  However, this is a great alternative to regular pasta and sauce.   I top this with parmesan and sometimes add TJ's turkey meatballs (unpictured, obvi).   Anyway, it feels like I'm getting something way more decadent than I am.   Seriously, this combo rocks.

This is a necessity in the house.    Ezekial sprouted grain bread.  It's way low on the glycemic index so no crashes.   It's super filling and a great source of protein.  It also contains some good amino acids.   This can be purchased these days at regular grocery stores in the health food section.  However, TJ's consistently has the lowest price on this.   I use this for almond butter toast, turkey sandwiches, egg white sandwiches, pb&j for the kiddos lunches, the list goes on.

These are legit #tdf.   As ya'll know, I love my red meat.  These come frozen and uncooked but cook up fast and fabulously on the grill or even in a skillet.    I typically eat these sans bun, topped with a zillion vegetables, cheddar cheese, and spicy mustard.    These are $5.99 for 4 really good sized burgers.    Another thing you need immediately.

Seriously, obsessed with these two.   Lundberg organic brown rice cakes and TJ's almond butter.  The best, easiest, quickest, most filling snack ever.   Two of these topped with one serving of almond butter is totally a cleanse appropriate snack in my opinion.   I eat this combo on the reg.  Cleansing or not.   Again, these rice cakes are the least expensive at TJ's.   Oh and where else can you get a big jar of almond butter for less than $6?  The answer is nowhere.

Last but not least, this is probably the TJ's item that I have the longest relationship with.  LOVE.   If you know anything about steel cut oats, you know they typically  take forevs and a day to cook and it's all basically just a big ole hassle.    Not these steel cut oats.  The directions say to cook for 8 minutes but I swear mine are always done in 5.   They're pretty much the bee's knees.   I eat these topped with PB or AB, cinnamon, and chopped banana.  I also use them for a ton of my Muscle Gain recipes.   What I'm trying to say is that they are awesome.   If you don't have these, you need them in your pantry.  Yesterday.

So there you have it.  My TJ's necessities.   There are a zillion other things at the fabulous TJ's that I fall in and out of love with on the reg. but these are my true and tried staples.

See you back here in the A for another SWW!

Laters for now.
